• OUR DELIVERABLES
    Digital Transportation

Decoding sound and vibration signals generated by traffic to reveal traffic flow, vehicle weight, road surface safety, and subsurface road conditions, all from the same data.

Why digital – because modern traffic systems are extremely complex and dynamic, and traditional monitoring methods cannot observe or manage them efficiently in real time. Digital transportation converts physical traffic activity into continuously measurable data, allowing intelligent analysis, optimization, and management.

Why machine listening - Traffic continuously generates sound and ground vibration signals. By capturing and decoding these signals, Machine Listening converts physical traffic activity into real-time digital data, enabling low-cost, large-scale, and privacy-preserving transportation monitoring.

  • Infrastructure Health

Monitoring ambient noise generated by natural and human activities and applying interferometric analysis to decode the signals and assess the structural health of infrastructure.

Slope Stability – Slopes can gradually weaken and eventually slide, causing disasters. By continuously “listening” to slopes, the system can detect subtle changes in their vibration patterns, revealing indicators such as water saturation, internal structural changes, and instability. These signals allow early warning when conditions suggest increasing risk.

Bridge Monitoring - Bridges naturally respond to environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and solid Earth tides. By listening to the vibration signals of bridges, the system can track structural integrity, identify abnormal changes in dynamic response, and detect early signs of material fatigue or fracturing.

Building Health - Buildings vibrate at characteristic frequencies determined by their structural properties. Ambient noise passing through a building can be analyzed to monitor these frequencies continuously. Changes in the vibration spectrum may indicate structural damage or the development of fractures.

Construction Monitoring – Construction activities may affect nearby infrastructure or underground pipelines. By listening to sound and vibration signals at construction sites, the system can detect anomalies such as structural collapse, water leakage, ground instability, or other environmental changes, enabling rapid response and mitigation.

  • NATURAL HAZARD MONITORING

Listening to subsurface processes across multiple scales enables continuous monitoring of induced seismicity, CO₂ storage integrity, and geothermal operations.

EarthX provides real-time characterization of seismicity and subsurface structural changes, including event location and magnitude, source focal mechanisms, subsurface reflectivity, and 3D S-wave velocity variations. These insights reveal otherwise invisible geological processes and offer a comprehensive view of subsurface dynamics.

Geophysicists have long studied major natural hazards worldwide, such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes, and, in some cases, have reported evidence of precursor activities prior to their occurrence. EarthX’s Machine Listening capability enables the continuous detection and real-time interpretation of such signals, allowing these insights to be applied proactively before events occur.
